Toy Story 3 to Topple $1 Billion in Box Office Sales

Disney has its second billion dollar movie of the year.  The Pixar animated film Toy Story 3 was expected to top the billion-dollar mark in worldwide box office sales over the weekend.  Toy Story 3 will join this year’s Alice in Wonderland as the second Walt Disney film to top the number since the beginning of the year.  Disney is the first studio in history to achieve the task.

Toy Story 3 marks the first time that an animated movie has crossed the $1 billion dollar threshold, and is only the seventh movie in history to do so.  As of last Thursday, the movie had brought in nearly $600 million from the international market, and just over $400 million in the U.S.  The international receipts make this Disney’s largest international animated film release in history.

Toy Story 3 is setting ticket receipt records across the globe.  The movie has already brought in $138 million in Latin America, making it the highest grossing film ever released in that region.  Additionally, the film is already Disney’s most successful release in the UK.  It currently has brought in over $102.4 million at the box office, making it the fourth biggest title ever in the UK.

Toy Story 3 currently ranks as the #7 movie in the history of global box office sales, and as the ninth ranked movie of all time in the U.S.

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland became Disney’s biggest international movie of all time, bringing over $690 million in the global market.  It is also the fifth highest grossing movie in international box office history.
