Teen Girls Victims in Texas Sex Trade
A new report entitled ‘Adolescent Girls in the Texas Sex Trade’ has just been released by the Dallas Women’s Foundation and the research included in it shows that trafficking of underage girls for sex is a criminal activity that is widespread in the state of Texas.
The study researched and documented the commercial exploitation of girls under the age of 18 for sex in both escort services and in online websites. The report tracked these activities through a one month period and is the first study to quantify trafficking of underage girls for sex in Texas.
The Chief Executive Officer and President of the Dallas Women’s Foundation, Becky Sykes, says that while no person wants to believe that their daughter would ever be a sex trafficking victim that the problem is occurring to female children on a daily basis in towns and cities across the state of Texas.
She went on to say that the main purpose of the study was to expose this shameful issue so that Texan communities are more able to understand the problem and then address it and prevent any further exploitation of underage girls for sex.
The research conducted for the report came up with some key findings regarding underage sexual exploitation. One of these was that in a one month period of time, 740 female who were below 18 years of age were marketed for sexual activities. Of these girls 28 were being advertised through an escort service while the other 712 were advertised on a variety of classified internet websites.
