Suspected Serial Killer Captured At Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

While waiting for his flight to Tel-Aviv at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport an Israeli-Arab man accused of stabbing at least 18 men and killing 5 was arrested.  33-year-old Elias Abuelazam was arrested on Wednesday at the airport in Atlanta while he waited for a flight that would take him to Israel.

A report from a victim in Michigan, where the man terrorized citizens surrounding the Flint area for months, was the catalyst to capturing the man before he was likely gone for good.

Abuelazam had been arrested at least two other times recently, though authorities had no idea he was the man being labeled a serial killer in Michigan and Virginia.  Late on the night of July 29 in Genesee County Michigan Abuelazam was arrested on the misdemeanor charge of providing alcohol to a minor.  That same day, someone had been brutally attacked in the area Abuelazam was arrested.

Michigan police had another chance to put the man away for good last week when he was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign.  While Abuelazam was stopped, officers found that there was a warrant for his arrest for misdemeanor assault charges.  While stopped, police found numerous weapons in the car that are thought to have been connected to his crimes.  Officers found a hammer and knife in the car, the same weapons his alleged victims had described being used in the assaults.  Abuelazam was released with no further questions as no assaults in the area had been recently reported.

Abuelazam is currently being held by the FBI and is scheduled to return to Michigan, where the majority of his alleged crimes occurred, to face charges for the assaults.
