Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants Gets Ninth Season

Young fans of SpongeBob SquarePants will be pleased to hear that the biggest producer of animated programs for television, Nickelodeon, is going to run season nine of the very popular animated series. The announcement was made by Brown Johnson, who is the President of Animation at Nickelodeon, Family Group and MTVN Kids.

There are 26 episodes planned for the series that was ranked as the number one animated program for tweens and kids in 2010.

The series will be shown in 2012 and will include the benchmark 200th episode.

For ten years in a row SpongeBob SquarePants has been the most popular animated program for children aged from two to eleven.

Johnson said that the success of SpongeBob is due to the comedic sensibility, lovable characters and vision of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the series. He added that reaching the 200 episode mark places the series in the group of classic contemporary Nicktoons that have reached this benchmark.

SpongeBob SquarePants has once again finished the year as the most watched animated program for children of ages two to eleven. The show was number one with children aged six to eleven on basic cable and broadcast television. It also had the most total viewers for an animated program on basic cable. SpongeBob SquarePants is viewed in 26 languages for 171 markets world wide. That makes it the most successful and distributed program in the history the MTV Network.
