Holocaust Era Restitution Project Launched

A new project hasĀ been announced that will attempt to identify and give restitution to Holocaust victims that had all of their assets confiscated by Nazi officials in the years leading up to and including the Second World War.

The Jewish Agency for Israel initiated the project with full support from the Israeli government. The project is entitled the Holocaust Era Asset Restitution Taskforce, known by its acronym, Project Heart. It aims to produce the information, tools and strategy that will enable all of the project partners to try to achieve some small amount of justice for the Jewish victims of Nazi atrocities, legal heirs of Jewish victims and all Jewish people.

During the initial phase of the operation, Project HEART is going to concentrate on identifying those people who might have a legitimate claim that they have not received compensation for, such as private property that was in Germany or in countries occupied by Nazi or Axis forces, private property that was confiscated from Jewish people by Nazi or Axis forces as well as property from people who lost it under the Nazi/Axis racial laws.

After the Second World War ended many Jewish victims of the Holocaust returned to find that they were unable to legally recover their property.
