G.CO to Become Official Google Shortcut

.CO Internet S.A.S. announced recently that internet giant Google has purchased the G.CO domain name and plans to use it as the address as a shortcut to help users and customers engage with the various products and services offered. The Registry company also noted that 500 Startups, a seed fund and incubator from Silicon Valley, is also working on using 500.CO as their main domain name. The .CO domain was only launched about one year ago but the new domain extension has proven popular among both entrepreneurs and giant corporations. One million registrations have been filed from over 200 countries. Recent sign-ups have come from names like Amazon, Overstock and Twitter.

The new domain name acquisition was announced by Google’s VP of Consumer Marketing, Gary Briggs, on the Google Blog. G.CO will be the official shortcut for accessing of Google’s services and pages. Google will be the only company with access to the domain, so anytime a guests visits something hosted on G.CO they can feel safe knowing the page is trustworthy.

Short URLs are in high demand now as consumers are inundated with longer and more complicated URLs to memorize. Three simple letters make it easy to remember the shortcut to all of Google’s properties. .CO Internet S.A.S. hopes that the brand recognition of Google will help the domain extension grow even larger and more attractive to companies and businesses around the globe. 500.CO, the new domain for popular start-up founding company 500 Startups, will also add to the domain’s popularity. The incubator operates over 150 different companies in a variety of countries and is continuing to grow daily. The company was located for many years at 500Startups.com, but likes the short and easy to remember URL that the .CO TLD provides.
