Former Executive Producer, Nigel Lythgoe, Returns to ‘Idol’

American Idol will be returning to its roots with the kickoff of the hit show’s tenth season.  Former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe will return in the same capacity that he served for the first seven seasons of the show.  Lythgoe is also the co-creator and executive producer of the hit show So You Think You Can Dance.

American Idol will be undergoing numerous changes as it closes out its first decade on television.  Gone will be many of the judges that America has grown to know.  The show’s creator, Simon Fuller, said it was imperative to bring back Lythgoe as the show redefines itself for its venture into new frontiers.  Lythgoe was a huge part of making the show as popular as it has become with his high energy, and his ability to help the judges, and the shows talent, perfect their roles.  As the show breaks in its next set of judges, Fuller felt that Lythgoe would be the perfect person to once again show them how it is done.

During his first stint with Idol, Lythgoe was nominated for 47 Emmy Awards.  In 2007, he received the Governor’s Award for his role as executive director of Idol Gives Back.  The award is the highest honor given out by the Television Academy.

American Idol will make its tenth season debut in January of 2011 on FOX.  The show will return with an all-new set of judges, and as always a new lineup of talent.
