Dr. Laura Leaving Radio Show amid Controversial Use of Racial Epitaph

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, a radio mainstay for more than 30 years, will leave her radio show when her contract is up at the end of the year.  Schlessinger, better known as Dr. Laura, created a massive amount of controversy over her use of the “N” word on one of her recent shows.  She cited the incident for her decision to leave the show.

Schlessinger went on Larry King Live to apologize and announce that she would be leaving the show at the end of the year.  The controversy began when the advice guru had a caller ask for advice on how to deal with racial comments made by her family.  The radio show host proceeded to go on a lengthy diatribe, calling the listener oversensitive to racism.  She proceeded to use the “N” word in abundance as she described how many African Americans use the word, but then get upset when a white person uses the word.

Schlessinger has cited her loss of first Amendment rights as a radio host as a reason for her decision to leave the show.  Schlessinger has repeatedly apologized for her actions since they occurred, however she said she continues to receive “hate-filled” messages.

Dr. Laura has the third highest rated talk radio show in America.  She follows only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity in number of listeners.  Much of her career was spent with KFI-AM (640), however just a year ago she was lured to KFWB-AM (980).  The radio station completely switched platforms from news to talk radio, and made Schlessinger the focal point of their daytime programming.
