Dinosaurs Alive at Kings Island
Kings Island Amusement Park, located in Ohio, has added an exciting new attraction to their already packed park. The new “Dinosaurs Alive!” exhibit is the world’s largest animatronic dinosaur display. Over 60 life sized dinosaurs will roar, sniff and blink at children and adults alike. The animatrons are installed in a lush, tropical park setting that reminds visitors of the world as it was over 200 million years ago. Only 4 of the dinosaurs aren’t animated, making the exhibit very exciting for dinosaur and archeology fans of all ages.
All of the dinosaurs began with a metal frame built based on real fossilized remains. This frame was given the motors, cogs and wiring need to make the dinosaurs move as realistically as possible. Over all of this were laid carefully hand carved and painted skins made from airbrushed latex that look just as mottled and rough as any real dinosaur hide.
The park is divided into six main exhibits and nine smaller theme areas. A 4,000 foot long path winds through over 12 acres of carefully planted forest. The dinosaurs themselves are posed with plants that they might have eaten or with the other dinosaurs that would have been their prey. Children will enjoy seeing the life sized Stegosaurus or listening to the massive Tyrannosaurus Rex roar.
Four dinosaur models offer interaction with guests through special consoles. Guests can make the models open their mouths, move and emit sounds through the buttons on the console. This area of the park will be open throughout the summer and fall. From now until August 28th the park will be open every day from 10 am to nightfall. Guests must purchase a separate $5.00 admission ticket for this special area, and admission is not included with the purchase of a season pass.
