'Create Dunkin's Next Donut' Winner Announced

Dunkin’ Donuts announced the release of a new banana and peanut butter inspired donut, the “Monkey-See Monkey-Donut”. The donut, created by the winner of the company’s recent “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” contest Rachel Davis, will show up in more than 9,000 stores across the country on September 12. Almost 90,000 submissions were sent in for the contest, but the experts at Dunkin’ Donuts chose this donut over them all.

The 60 year old company holds a create-a-donut competition each year to encourage their regular customers to submit their new ideas for unique donut creations. Prize money is offered, as well as the honor for having your donut sold in Dunkin’ Donut stores across the country.

The donut features a filling of bananas foster, and is topped with peanut butter chips and chocolate icing. Rachel received $12,000 as prize money for winning the contest. The other 11 finalists were each given $1,200 in prize money, and they all visited the Dunkin’ Donuts’ University. A bake-off, creating prototype of the 12 donut flavor combinations, allowed the company’s leaders and culinary team to sample the participant’s recommendations.

Dunkin’ Donuts customers were also invited to vote online for their favorite new donut concept. The winner explains that her banana and peanut butter combination donut design was inspired by chocolate covered bananas dipped in peanut butter, her favorite dessert. The peanut butter chips on the donut are Reese’s brand, creating a great blend of flavors.

The Executive chef for Dunkin’ Donuts, Stan Frankenthaler, was one of the contest judges and regularly makes decisions on new donut ideas. He believes that the “Monkey-See Monkey-Donut” will be popular in locations around the country, due to its unique blend of popular flavors. It may fill a gap in Dunkin’ Donuts line up. He also applauded the creativity and originality of all of the contestants who sent in their donut creations.
