Betty White Signs Two Book Deal with Putnam’s

It seems that as she ages, Betty White gets more and more popular.  The 88-year-old actress recently signed a deal with G.P. Putnam’s Sons to write two new books.  White has long been a popular presence in Hollywood, though it seems as if her profile has risen dramatically over the past year or so.

The first of the two books is due out next spring.  “Listen Up!” will focus on White’s Hollywood career.  White has spent over 60 years working in the land of stars.  She has garnered fame and public awareness in her roles on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, “The Golden Girls”, and most recently on “Hot in Cleveland”.  The 88-year-old actress also saw her profile rise as the star of a hit Super Bowl commercial for Snickers, as well as a celebrated appearance on Saturday Night Live last May.  The publishing company said that in addition to the book focusing on her career in Hollywood, White will offer her thoughts on aging, love and sex.

The second book, scheduled for release in 2012, is under the working title “The Zoo and I: Betty and Her Friends”.  The book will utilize pictures and stories of zoo animals.  White has long been a supporter of zoos, and has served on the Los Angeles Zoo Board for some time.

The new books will not be White’s first foray into the publishing world.  In 1987, White penned “Betty White in Person”, followed by the 1995 book “Here We Go Again: My Life in Television”.  White has also written books related to pets.
