Best Diets Rankings Released
U.S. News Media Group has released the newest Best Diets rankings after months of research. The publisher relied on over 20 years of experience in rating hospitals and other health care related products and services to create the new rankings. Almost all of the diets available to consumers were ranked in five major categories to accommodate the needs of different consumers. 22 experts in nutrition and dieting were responsible for rating the options.
Weight Watchers took the top rank in the Best Weight-Loss Diets category. This category contains diets designed to help overweight or obese consumers lose weight, rather than maintaining a steady weight. Two diets tied for the second place ranking in the weight loss category. Jenny Craig, which relies on prepared foods created by the Jenny Craig company, and the Raw Food Diet, which allows dieters to only eat uncooked food, both scored in second place.
For consumers suffering from diabetes, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet reached the top ranking. DASH helps dieters manage their blood sugar levels or prevent diabetes if started early. Three diet plans tied for second in the Diabetes category, including the Ornish Diet, the Mayo Clinic Diet, and the Vegan Diet that emphasizes eating no animal products or meat.
For the Best Heart-Healthy Diets the Ornish Diet took the top spot, followed closely by the government created Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) Diet in second. The DASH Diet that ranked second in the diabetes prevention and management category took third for heart-healthy eating. It’s also designed to lower hypertension, a disorder that raises your risk for heart disease. DASH also took first in the Best Diets Overall category, followed by a three way tie of the TLC Diet, Weight Watchers and the Mediterranean Diet. In the final category, Best Commercial Diet Plans, Weight Watchers again took the top spot, followed by Jenny Craig and Slim Fast at 2 and 3 respectively.
